The origins of Kedarnath are shrouded in the mists of time. Legends say that after defeating the demon Daksha, Lord Shiva wandered the earth with Sati's body. To prevent her further dismemberment, Lord Vishnu scattered body parts across various locations. The navel (kedar) is believed to have fallen at Kedarnath, hence the name.
The Pandavas, the legendary heroes of the Mahabharata, are also credited with finding the scattered body parts and building the first Kedarnath temple. As Swami Vivekananda eloquently said, "Shiva is the embodiment of peace. Peace is his message."

Kedarnath experiences harsh climatic conditions. The temple remains open for pilgrims only during the summer months, typically from late April to mid-November. The weather during this period is pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C. However, be prepared for occasional spells of rain.
