Jim Corbett National Park is located in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand, India. This national park was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park and renamed in 1957 to honor Jim Corbett who was a renowned hunter-turned-conservationist. It is a Tiger reserve which spans over 520 square kilometers and is India's oldest national park and a major hub for wildlife tourism and conservation.

The park is very famous for its rich biodiversity and Bengal tigers. Tourist can also see Indian elephants, leopards, sloth bears, deer, and over 600 bird species when they come to visit Jim Corbett. This Park is divided into nine zones, including Dhikala, Bijrani, and Jhirna, each zone offers unique experiences and access points. However, there are some restrictions in line with the ecological preservation.

There are so many things that the visitors can do in in Jim Corbett such as the jungle safaris, elephant rides, bird watching, and nature walks. There have also been the eco-tourism initiatives in the region such as community-based tourism programs which promote sustainable tourism and conservation efforts.

The Jim Corbett National Part is divided into different jeep Safari Zones and each zone offers a unique experience to the tourist.

  1. Dhikala Zone: The most popular and largest zone and has the highest chances of spotting tigers.
  2. Bijrani Zone: This zone is known for its dense forests and grasslands.
  3. Jhirna Zone: Open throughout the year and known for its varied wildlife and bird species.
  4. Dhela Zone: A newer zone which is open year-round and is known for its diverse flora and fauna.
  5. Durga Devi Zone: This is the its hilly terrain and is a great zone for bird watching.
  6. Garjia Zone: Another recently opened zone this zone is ideal for spotting wildlife in their natural habitat.

What to Do in Haridwar?

On an Elephant safari you can go deeper in the Forest to areas which are inaccessible to vehicles. This safari is just for couple of hours and you can observe the Flora and Fauna from a vantage point. To enjoy the elephant safari you can wear comfortable clothes and mainly earthy-colored clothes that can help you blend in with the natural surroundings and wear sturdy slippers to help with walking in the forest.

Bird Watching

Jim Corbett National Park has over 600 species of birds. For a good bird watching experience wake up early morning and carry Binoculars and Camera. If you have a field guide then it will be easier for you to identify the species.
